Oak Ridge National Laboratory Computer Science Researcher Position

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:

The Applied Software Engineering Research (ASER) Group in the Computational Sciences & Engineering Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks a computer scientist to perform basic and applied research in the challenge of analyzing very large volumes of text, image, and video data, specifically including intelligent agents, machine learning, information retrieval, and knowledge discovery. The individual must be flexible with regard to research assignments, must be able to collaborate with other scientists, engineers, and sponsors, and capable of producing significant research results.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include the ability to see and explore future concepts in the analysis of large text, image, and video data sets. This will require a good understanding of several key research areas, such as intelligent agents, machine learning, information retrieval, and knowledge discovery. A successful candidate will have the ability to quickly understand a sponsors need, translate this into a research question and hypothesis, create experiments and prototype software to evaluate the new research concepts, present the research to the sponsor, publish the results at top conferences and journals, secure and increase funding in your research areas, and to collaborate with renowned experts in your field.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED: 

Position requires a Ph.D. in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. Candidates must have demonstrated the ability to conduct independent and significant research.  Position requires the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

REMARKS: 

A preference will be placed on candidate capable of obtaining and maintaining a DOE Q security clearance, which requires US citizenship.
