Thomas E. Potok is the Applied Software Engineering Research Group Leader at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and an Adjunct Professor at University of Tennessee since June 1997.  Scientists and Engineers at ORNL conduct basic and applied research to strengthen the nation’s leadership in key areas of science; increase availability of clean, abundant energy; and contribute to national security. Dr. Potok had a long career at IBM in programming before getting his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1996 and moved to ORNL to lead a number of software agent research projects.  He has published 50+ research articles, received 4 issued (approved) patents, currently serve on the Editorial Board of International Journal of Web Services Research and International Journal of Computational Intelligence Theory and Practice, and also conference organizing or program committees for Homeland Security Workshop on Information Analysis, Synthesis, and Cybersecurity; IEEE Swarm Intelligence Symposium; American Association for Artificial Intelligence Conference; 4th International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Conference; 9th International Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information & Engineering Systems; International FLAIRS Conference, etc.
